DirectionsThere is a public car park at Llyn Geirionydd which is reached from a really awkward B route from Betws Y Coed. If you park here you need to then walk to “10’o’clock” on the lake (marked as shafts on the O/S map).
Alternatively, walk up from the Klondyke lead mine (up along the stream) and you will come across Llyn Geirionyndd (north tip). Bear right and walk around the lake until you see the very obvious spoil.
AccessUngated & open. Permission unknown but thought not to be required.
Suggested EquipmentNone
Length200-300 feet.
Flood riskNone known.
Mine AttributesThought to be a Manganese mine.
DescriptionThis mine is marked on the O/S map as “shafts” but this is incorrect.
In fact, this is more of a vein that was exposed to the surface and has been mined away creating a narrow(ish) rift running into the hillside.
There is far more spoil here than the evidential mine would suggest and at the back of the rift there is an adit which cannot be reached unless you abseil down from above. The spoil here is interesting as it appears to glitter and sparkle.
This mine is in close proximity to the Klondyke Lead mine.
Unexplored PassagesThere is at least one unexplored passage that requires SRT to reach.
DigsNone known.
