| Hi whoever? (Tim perhaps) I have followed the process to register for the new UCET website but when I followed the link to email for an account upgrade to the private section I was sent the following:
Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address.
<sec@ucet.org.uk>: Remote host said: 550 <sec@ucet.org.uk>: invalid address [RCPT_TO]
Yours

| Yes, sorry about that. The migration process of the domain @ucet.org.uk is (was) meant to take between 24-48hours. It still hasn't propagated over but should have done in the next few hours.
I've checked the IPS-TAG transfer with Nominet and it has changed over to the new server so it's literally just a case of waiting for the DNS servers around the world to update themselves.
Les, in the meantime, I've upgraded you to UCET Member status - you're the first one (other than me!)
Marty - can't see you on the user list.
Tim

| Hi Tim, are you going to migrate all the content from the current forum to the new forum? It would be a shame to loose all the history of what has happened on here. (you can leave some of the jokes behind though ) Les | |

| Les,
No, one way or the other we'll keep the exisiting content.
The problem is, the suppliers of this free forum system (Forumotion) retain 'ownership' of all the content within the forum system. They won't release the database to us (as a matter of policy) and this is one of the main problems in case they vanish off the face of the planet, for the same reason we can't keep a back-up for security either.
Looks like the only realistic way might be a rather lengthy process of cutting and pasting all the posts one by one into the new forum.... god only knows how long that will take though.
I'm investigating automated tools to try to trawl through this forum to extract the data into the new database.
For those who are interested, the entire new site is backed up once every 24 hours by the hosting company, also backed up once every 24 hours onto my personal server at home (which is onto a raid array), and every month i also back my home server up onto a removable drive which i keep offsite (in case of fire etc). So the data will be pretty much bomb proof.
Tim

| Hi Tim, If you have to take the "cut and paste" approach I will offer my assistance.
Les
p.s. I tried to update my profile on the new site but it won't accept my changes, avatar, date of birth, gender, etc. Is this down to the lack of domain propagation or a bug in the web software?
p.p.s. You could have hosted with BCA. You would have complete control of the site and installed any software. High end hosting service at an optimal price. Worth thinking about...

| Les, hmm... just entered into 3 year deal with hostpapa :-( I've had a look at http://british-caving.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=pricing and thankfully, the deal i got with hostpapa was pretty good (with unlimited bandwidth and storage space) in comparison so thank goodness for that! I'll look into the profile update tonight - sounds like a big to me. r.e. the propagation process. There was a problem with the DNS updates which have now been sorted, so it will take between 24 to 72 hours as of 15:14 today. Cheers for being chief beta tester! Let me know as when u find any more problems - I'm sure their will be plenty! Cheers, Tim | |
