Cabin Shaft (Minera Mine) Empty
PostSubject: Cabin Shaft (Minera Mine)   Cabin Shaft (Minera Mine) I_icon_minitimeSat 09 May 2009, 10:55 am

Location
SJ 262 517

Directions
From the Moors Inn (Junction of A525 & B5430), head towards Wrexham (on the B5430) and take the 2nd right. Follow the road down and over a small crossroads until you come to a T junction. This T junction tries to naturally take you left – go left. Take the next right which heads downwards almost doubling back on yourself and park in the car park at the end of the road.

Take the footpath past the house (heading back the way you came but off to the right) and head into the woodland (following the path which forks to the right).

Cabin shaft is around 40 feet inside the wood on the right around 200 yards up the path. You will also see a stile in the fence around another 100 yards further – you can use this and double back on yourself in the wood.

There are two shafts almost next to each other – one is open (fenced) – this is NOT the one. The other has an unlocked wooden hatch – this IS the one.

Unknown but extensive

Mine Attributes
Lead mine leading to a natural cave passage up to ½ mile in length (Grand Turk). Heavy mineral content within the rock.

Description
This is a reasonable sized lead mine which connects to a natural system (Grand Turk).

The lead mien is reasonably substantial and offers a great many passages with interesting off-shoots in many places. There is a popular “round trip” within the mine although a number of passages travel a very good distance which are not within this round trip.

The mine also benefits from a number of fantastic decorations and care should be taken to avoid disturbing these sites. The heavy mineral content of the rock is also a very attractive feature of the mine.

The journey to Grand Turk passage is fairly arduous through the mine if you have SRT kit on but there is a gated entrance right next to the shaft which is believed to be under the auspice of NWCC.

To enter Grand Turk you need to descend (and rig a traverse) a shaft of around 70-80 feet and then endure a flat out wiggly belly crawl of around 100 yards. The natural cave passage is that of a deserted riverway with water now only apparent in the far distant reaches of the tunnel where it continues to enter from a different place above.

The passage itself, although long, has some small decorations to the left (as you enter from the belly crawl) but little else. The passage is, however, impressive in it’s size and leads, eventually, to a sump.

Around 300 yards before the sump there is a small mined passage leading to another shaft perhaps 80 feet in height – presumably this leads to another mine where Old Man made a break through to Grand Turk sometime in the distant past.

Unexplored Passages
Many passages in the mine remain unexplored.

The upward shaft in Grand Turk remains unexplored.
