Location
SH 224 833

Directions
Located at the north of Holy Island, Anglesey. Drive through Holyhead town centre and go to the small visitor centre and car park for Nannerch Quarry north of Holyhead town itself (parking marked on O/S map).

Adit #1
Park by the public toilets (slightly away from the main car park) and you will see a metal gate into a field and small quarry. A wide and obvious path runs directly from this gate to the quarry face around 100 feet away. The adit is located 30 feet up the quarry wall, is gated (but open) and can easily be seen from your position by the toilets.

Adit #2
From the main car park, walk behind the little souvenir shop and you will see a stack of ore in a field held in place by wooden posts (see photo below).

The adit is in the quarry wall (at the base) behind this and also behind a small red sign warning of loose rocks above. It is difficult to see because of high brambles.

Access
Unknown. Both gated but both gates swing freely open as the bolts/hinges are rusted and broken.

Suggested Equipment
Adit #1 requires rope and an electron. Adit #2 requires nothing.

Length
Adit #1 ~ Unknown
Adit #2 ~ 30 feet

Flood risk
Unknown but no sign of water in either adits

Mine Attributes
Unknown

Description

Adit #1
This is located around 30 foot up the quarry face and requires an easy Zig-Zag scramble to get to it.

Once inside, it is dry and travels for around 50 feet to a shaft which drops down around 30 feet (ground level?).

There is very clearly an adit cross-cutting the shaft at it’s base leading both left and right.

There are no hangers or bolts and descent requires an electron ladder. I did not have any means to descend.

I would recommend taking a rope to tie to the inside of the gate which can then be used to tie electron ladders to at the shaft head (I could see no other way to make the descent).

What lays down there is unknown.

I looked around the quarry on the outside to find a ground level adit (logic suggests there should be one) but I could not find it. There are a lot of brambles impeding any search and areas where broken rock lies against the quarry wall which could have been JCB'ed into place to seal an entrance. I think the only way in is through the upper adit.

Adit #2
A mostly pointless adit.

Gated but open, this passage swings around to the left almost immediately whereupon it comes back out of the rock face and you are met with another gated covered to the top with brambles.

Getting to this adit through the brambles in the first place was extremely painful.

Unexplored Passages
The lower level of Adit #1 is unexplored
